The Rushmore Courier

The weekly school paper of Rushmore Academy

About The Rushmore Courier

The Rushmore Courier is written, edited and fact-checked by the students of Rushmore Academy as part of their journalism course, and published once a week.

The paper is a classroom with readers. Students pitch stories, report them, write them, check each other's work against the sources, and only then hand them to a parent, who reads every line before anything is published. The students write under pen names chosen with their parents.

What you will find here: short news reports on what the students are studying, making and visiting; a question of the week; a fact-check box that takes one claim and tests it; and clearly labelled commentary. What you will not find: anything written by a machine, anything unsourced, or any private detail about anyone. Our standards explain how each piece is verified and how we correct mistakes.

About the school

Rushmore Academy is a Christ-centered classical school for Florida home education families, kindergarten through twelfth grade: mastery instead of seat time, a real school paper from grade 6, and a parent in charge. If that sounds like your family, you can read how the school works at rushmore.academy.
